Egypt Desalination Research Center of Excellence

WELCOME TO EDRC

Main Goal

ABOUT US

The Desert Research Center (DRC) established the Egypt Desalination Research Center of Excellence (EDRC) a central coordinating point for water reuse applied research and training activities in Egypt. The EDRC is considered the focal point of the desalination and treatment activities in Egypt. It recently formed the Water Desalination Alliance in Egypt, which gathers partners from academia, industries, endorsers, and NGO. The EDRC contains membrane preparation, fabrication, characterization and performance laboratory units focused on water treatment and has accumulated over 30 years of experience in R&D on water production and water quality.

Prof. Hosam Ahmed Shawky

Director

Prof. Shawky is a professor in water chemistry and got his B.Sc, M.Sc, and Ph.D. in chemistry from the chemistry department faculty of science-Ain Shams University, Egypt. He is the founder of the “Water Desalination & Treatment Unit” at Desert Research Center (DRC). Moreover, he is the founder of the “Water Quality Unit” as a part of the Central laboratories of DRC. he is the founder and director of Egyptian Desalination Research Center of Excellence (EDRC). Since 2020, he is the Vice President for Projects & Research Station at DRC.

WHAT WE DO

Summer School

The Egyptian Desalination Research Center of Excellence (EDRC) and the Technology and Innovation Commercialization Office (TICO) organize the annual summer school on “Towards Non-conventional Sustainable Water Resources,” which is held in October every year at Marsa-Matruh City. The summer school focus on sustainable water supply and wastewater management in order to achieve sustainable development in Egypt. The Summer School aims to make water supply and wastewater management interesting and put these topics at the forefront of people´s minds. Furthermore, it give a broad understanding of water circulation in society as well as an understanding of the aspects related to water and wastewater treatment. The summer school also provides an open platform for participants from different universities and research institutes to share experiences and exchange ideas for cooperation related to their different fields of water studies.

Conference

In the framework of cooperation between the Academy of Scientific Research and Technology, the Desert Research Center (DRC), and the Egyptian Desalination Research Center of Excellence (EDRC) organizes the annual international scientific conference, which is held in January every year to solve the problems of water shortage, find promising ways to save water, and present non-conventional sources. The conference aims to call attention to these concerns by focusing on innovative approaches to desalinating water and managing wastewater within an economic framework without affecting the environment. Additionally, it will provide a thorough grasp of water circulation in society and the underlying factors in wastewater treatment. The conference offers an open opportunity for participants from different universities and research institutions around the world to share experiences and develop ways to work together on projects related to their diverse fields of water studies.

Training

The Egyptian Desalination Research Center of Excellence (EDRC) regularly hosts training sessions for Egyptian university students in its main laboratories with the goal of preparing graduates for the career path and advancing their expertise in the field of scientific research. The labs have the technology for preparing and characterization nanomaterials. Under the guidance of specialists in the field of scientific research, students receive training.

NEWS & EVENTS

5th International Water Desalination Conference.

The International Conference on Water Desalination, which is presented by the Center of Excellence of the Desert Research Center, is back after an absence for two years in a row. The conference serves as a global scientific platform where specialists from all Egyptian universities and research institutions as well as those from other nations discuss the most recent methods for sourcing alternative water sources to keep up with sustainable development in line with the 2030 plan.

A workshop entitled “The Law of Incentives for Science, Technology, and Innovation to Serve the Research Process”

EDRC announces the establishment of a workshop entitled “The Law of Incentives for Science, Technology, and Innovation to Serve the Research Process” on Wednesday, March 15th, at ten o’clock in the morning at the Desert Research Center, (the Grand Meeting Hall).
The workshop discusses the Science Incentives Law and the clause and experience of the EDRC affiliated with the DRC as the first research center in applying this law to import laboratory equipment with customs and tax exemption.

We are Winning
