Dr. Abdel-Hameed El-Aassar is a professor and consultant in the fields of water chemistry and desalination. He received his B.Sc and M.Sc. degrees from Chemistry dept., Faculty of science, Ain Shams University, and Ph.D. degree from El-Azhar University, in the years 1992, 2000 and 2008, respectively. Both M.Sc and Ph.D. thesis are in the field of reverse osmosis membrane synthesis for water desalination of saline water.
Since 1994, he is working in “Water Desalination Unit”, hydro-geochemistry department at Desert Research Center (DRC) that is concerned with the production of better quality water via advanced water desalination techniques; reverse osmosis, membrane distillation and forward osmosis. Also, he concerns by the synthesis, characterization of different polymeric materials (membranes, films, hydro-gels, … etc.) and improving these materials using nanomaterials.
In the period from 2008-2010, he helped in achievement of two M.Sc. theses in water treatment and water desalination. Since 2010, he has supervised eight Ph.D. and ten M.Sc theses.
Moreover, he participated in the founding of both “Water Quality Unit” as a part of the Central Laboratory of DRC and Egyptian Desalination Research Center (EDRC).
He has participated in several research projects and international conferences and training workshops on environmental photo-chemistry, nanotechnology, water desalination and polymer fields starting from 2001 until now.
Also, he gained an award funded from STDF under USA-Egypt Science and technology collaboration program to join the researchers in the chemical engineering department, Texas University at Austin, Texas, USA for 8 months from January to Augusts 2012.
Over thirty research publications have appeared in the literature in the fields of water desalination, water pollution, water treatment and hydro-geochemistry.
Since March 2017, he is working a part time as a technical expert among the experts staff of the Egyptian accreditation council (EGAC) that assess the different laboratories that have or looking forward to 17025 ISO certification in the field of water analysis.
